Lewiston Public Library June programs, events and activities

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of June.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Book Club will meet on Tuesday, June 5, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 754-7714.

•The Parachute Group will meet on Tuesdays, June 5 and 19, from 10 to 11:30 p.m. The meetings provide a venue for networking, sharing contacts, ideas for best practices for the job search, and feature guest presenters on topics of interest to the group. The meeting is unaffiliated with any organization and is free and open to the public.

•The Lewiston Writers' Group will meet on Mondays, June 11 and 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library. For further information, visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•Moms Book Chat - the next edition of the book discussion group for moms will be Thursday, June 21, at 7 p.m. Discussed that day will be "The Falls" by Joyce Carol Oates.

•A file management computer class will be offered Thursday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required for all computer classes. Call the library, 754-4720, or stop by for details.

•A showing of the special local premier "The Yellow Wallpaper," directed by Logan Thomas and co-produced by former Niagara Falls resident, Greg Beaton, will be on screen Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m. The film is based on an "origins myth" rather than a direct adaptation of the famous Victorian gothic thriller by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact Ellen Comerford at 754-4144.

•The Dead Beats Society will not meet this month.

•Personal instructional genealogy appointments are available on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Call the library, 754-4720 to arrange an appointment or email Michelle Kratts at [email protected].

•The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library maintain a Used Book Room all year long; it's open during library hours. Items for sale include fiction, non-fiction, and children's materials.

•June meetings for the month include the Lewiston Library Board of Trustees, Monday, June 4, at 5 p.m.; Friends of the Library, Tuesday, June 12, at 6 p.m.

Weekly Story Time

•Alphabet Soup, a story time for ages 3 to 5, is offered Mondays, June 4 and 11 at 10:30 a.m.

•Lewiston Lap Sit, a story time for ages birth to 23 months is offered Wednesdays, June 6 and 13, at 9:30 a.m. Participants should arrive at the library by 9:25 a.m.

•Toddler Hour, a story time for ages 2 and 3, is offered Wednesdays, June 6 and 13, at 10:30 a.m.

•Story Hour with Mrs. Leardini, a story time for all ages, takes place Thursdays, June 7 and 14, at 10:30 a.m.

•Evening Story Hour takes place Tuesday, June 5, at 6 p.m. Featured work is "I Love Daddy."

The Lewiston Public Library will be closed on Saturdays, June 16 through Sept. 8.

Library hours: Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays the library is closed for the summer.
