Ceretto's father, Dominic, passes away; obit

Dominic J. Ceretto, 84, of Niagara Falls, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late John and Maria (Boetto) Ceretto Guerrucci and stepson of the late Adolph Guerrucci.

Ceretto was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School in 1946. On July 2, 1949, he married Virginia (Grenzy) Ceretto at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls.

Ceretto was employed as a millwright by the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls and later in Wheatfield until retiring as a maintenance foreman after 43 years of service. He was a former member of the Reunited Seniors and the Moose Lodge. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Cittadini Speciali ("Special Citizen") Award by the Pine Avenue Business Association.

Ceretto enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard with his family. A "Jack of all trades," he was able to fix anything, and was always willing to help family and friends with any repair problems.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Dominic is survived by his three children, New York State Assemblyman, John D. (Beth) Ceretto, Virginia A. (Clayton) Cutler (both of Lewiston), and Joseph E. (Ruth) Ceretto of Niagara Falls; nine grandchildren: Annemarie, John II, Vincent and Theresa Ceretto; Clayton II, Kevin and Jason Cutler; Arianna and Carissa Ceretto; one brother, Ralph (Theresa) Guerrucci of Lewiston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by three sisters: Irene (late John) Baio, Flora (late Jim) DelBrocco and Mary (Walter of Florida) Bulka.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 24. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls. The Rev. Robert Hughson will officiate. Entombment will be in Lewiston's Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
