Obit -- Nadine Smith Carr

Nadine (Smith) Carr, 80, of Youngstown, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Born Sept. 25, 1931, in Fonde, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Dean (Pack) Smith. Nadine moved to Niagara Falls in 1950. On April 8, 1950, she married her late husband, James T. Carr, who predeceased her in July 2005. In 1956, she and her husband moved to Youngstown. Together with her husband, children and grandchildren they worked on their farm.

The Carrs operated a fruit stand on Upper Mountain and Military roads for more than 50 years. Nadine also worked at Neisner's Department Store in Lewiston. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, at family gatherings - especially at Christmas - and with her pet cockatiels and cats.

She is survived by her children: Garry L. (Diane) Carr and Kevin D. Carr, both of Youngstown; James J. (Marijo) Carr and Billy W. (Linda) Carr, both of Niagara Falls, and Sharon Y. (Robert) Ward of Lewiston; by her grandchildren: Gretchen (Ronald) Kadlecik, Brian (Karola) Carr, Darryl (Brandy) Carr, Daniel Carr, Yvonne (Donald) Stephenson, Michael (Jenna) Ward, Bruce (Danielle) Carr, James (Amy) Carr Jr., Melanie (David) Byrd, Shawn (Jen) Carr, Steven Carr, Melissa Carr, Bridget (Jose) Mendez; by 12 great-grandchildren; by her brothers: Everett (Joyce) Smith of Springboro, Ohio, Kenneth (Patricia) of Youngstown, and John (Sondra) Smith of Niagara Falls; and by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in law, Sylvia (Arnold) Cobb.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 8, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Zajac Funeral Home Inc., 319 24th St., corner of Welch Avenue, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Bellingham officiating. Burial following in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
