Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Niagara County Community College Department of Nursing have formed a new partnership to offer current students who are pursuing their nursing degree hands-on experience in the medical field. Working in conjunction with the hospital's newly established Center for Women, Mount St. Mary's will accept four students to participate in a paid maternity nursing externship program this summer.

"This is a great opportunity for students to receive first-hand experience in maternity nursing while they are in the midst of their academic studies," said Mount St. Mary's Director of Maternity Services Debra Hastee. "Over the course of six weeks, the students will cover everything from prenatal care to labor and delivery to postpartum care and newborn nursery."

Mount St. Mary's Center for Women is located on the second floor of the hospital and includes maternity and gynecology services. The hospital recently completed phase one of an ongoing remodel of the second floor, which included the addition of physician offices and treatment areas.

Students who have satisfactorily completed Nursing 2 (NUR 112) at NCCC are encouraged to apply. For more information, contact Hastee at 716-298-2618.
