Thirty-five students from the Orleans and Niagara Career and Technical Education centers came home victorious from the SkillsUSA Region 1 Leadership Conference and Skills Competition recently held at SUNY Alfred.
Students spent the day competing against others in their areas of study from Allegany, Steuben, Monroe, Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Cattaraugus and Ontario counties.
Many students will go on the New York state competition in Syracuse next month and will hopefully move on to the Nationals in Kansas City, Mo.
Winners from the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center included the following Niagara-Wheatfield and Starpoint students:
First Place
Alexander Burns (Niagara-Wheatfield), Nicholas Hawkins (Starpoint), Christopher Mellott (North Tonawanda), Project Based Engineering Program, automated manufacturing technology team.
Victor Burdukoc (Starpoint), Auto Mechanics Program, in auto technology.
Marco Notaro (N-W), Project Based Engineering Program, in technical math.
Second Place
Caitlin Reilly (N-W), Conservation Program, in conservation.
Megan Perry (N-W) Cosmetology Program, in cosmetology
Melissa Overbeck (Niagara Falls), Chelsea Rupple (Wilson) and Tyler Woods (N-W), Security and Law Enforcement Program, in the CSI team competition.
Kyle Clapsadle (Starpoint), Project Based Engineering Program, in technical drafting.
Sean Clark (Starpoint) and Tyler Wright (N-W) Digital Media Program, in TV/video production team.
Third Place
Amber Passero (N-W) Culinary Arts Program, in culinary arts.
