A unique event will be presented at the historic Lewiston Opera Hall, 732 Center St., Lewiston, on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. E. R. (Bob) Baxter III will read from his new book, "Niagara Digressions" and sign books afterward. He'll be joined in this celebration by The Acoustic Rangers (Dave Berner, Stan Eckel, George Kobas, Kim Reeves, Jim Moran and John Merino).

Baxter was born and raised on the Niagara Frontier. He attended local schools, caddied, delivered papers, washed dishes, drove tours, worked in the factories, at Pittsburgh Met and International Graphite and on the Power Project down in the hole of the reservoir. He hitchhiked across the country, got drafted, spent two years in the Army, and more years hiking up and down the Niagara Gorge; he loves the world of nature and the creatures in it; Baxter attended Niagara County Community College and eventually taught there until he retired.

And has something to say about all of this.

Some of his thoughts ended up in "Niagara Digressions."

"I'm looking forward to taking the show on the short road and reading in the Village of Lewiston," Baxter said. "Years ago, I participated in the Lewiston Art Festival, showing posters of concrete poetry - and this is a rounding off of that event. I hope people come for the words and the music, to have a cuppa, and enjoy."

Baxter has been a fellow of a New York State Creative Service Award for fiction and a recipient of a Just Buffalo Award for fiction.
