Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School was recently honored as a recipient of an automated external defibrillator - a portable device used to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac arrest - at the Jeffrey B. Scott Memorial Hockey Tournament, in conjunction with the Madison McCarthy Cardiac Care Coalition for Children.

The annual tournament memorializes Scott, who passed away at age 11 almost 30 years ago, tragically from a heart defect, following a neighborhood street hockey game, This tribute celebrates his life, hockey, and the ability to help others by donating AEDs to facilities to prevent similar future events.

Pictured, Judi Nolan Powell, left, chairwoman of Niagara Catholic and Catholic Academy of Niagara Falls, and Robert Scott, right, president of St. Joseph Collegiate Institute, and grandfather of Jeffrey B. Scott, the tournament namesake, accept plaques symbolizing their AED awards.

The machine will be delivered to Niagara Catholic next month at which time CPR/AED training will be provided to faculty and staff members.
