The St. Peter R.C. School Future City Team won the award for the Most Unique Engineering Design at the Western New York Regional Competition, held on Jan. 21 at Mount St. Mary's Academy. The team placed eighth overall in Western New York. The competition has four main components: first an essay and a city narrative, then the virtual city made with a SimCity computer program. On the competition day, students are judged on their scale model and presentation.

The preparation for the competition takes many hours of after-school time. In the end, the St. Peter's team pulled through with the highest finish they have achieved in the six years that teacher Lisa Drennan and team mentor CWM Chemical Services LLC engineer Chris Nicastro have been involved.

The Future City Team consisted of seven eighth-grade students: Matteson Bancroft-Billings, Thomas Cauley, Michael Gabriele, Nina Grenga, Seamus McGillion, MaryJo Rotella and Colin Winkworth.
