Staff to share information, assist with risk assessments at Feb. 26 event in Hamburg

Roswell Park Cancer Institute invites the community to the 2012 Western New York Health Expo Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. RPCI staff will share information on cancer prevention, risk factors, early detection, treatment and survivorship.

For anyone concerned about personal cancer risk, RPCI representatives will be on hand to help attendees complete initial risk assessments for the RPCI high-risk programs in breast, lung and ovarian cancer.

The expo will also feature a "Spit for the Cure" DNA collection drive. Staff from RPCI's Data Bank and BioRepository will collect saliva samples from participants, ages 18 and older, who will be asked to complete a health history questionnaire. The DBBR stores health information and specimen data from people with and without cancer, providing researchers with data that may help identify risk factors and reveal why some people develop cancer and others do not.

Visitors who stop by both RPCI-sponsored booths can enter to win prizes, including an autographed Buffalo Bills jersey.
