Two Island students have been named the winners in a poster contest sponsored by Grand Island Knights of Columbus Mary Star of the Sea Council No. 4752.

Sydney Dworak of Huth Road Elementary School and Spencer Mitchell of St. Stephen School were chosen by a judging panel that evaluated entries and selected the winners in two category themes: alcohol awareness and abuse, and drug awareness and abuse.

Both students received a $50 check and a winner's certificate.

Dworak is a 10--year-old student in Julie Neville's fifth-grade class. Mitchell is an 11-year-old student in Daniela Schmidt's sixth-grade class.

The Knights of Columbus received 21 entries in the contest in the 8-to-11 age group from students at Huth Road Elementary School and St. Stephen School.
