Proposed cuts would be devastating to Western New York

State Sen. Mark Grisanti sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo today asking him to restore funding to the NFTA.

"The NFTA is New York state's second largest transit provider, and the only upstate entity with a light rail system. The NFTA serves over 27 million in annual Metro Passengers," Grisanti wrote.

The MTA is expected to receive close to $250 million in this year's upcoming budget. The NFTA needs $10 million in deficit reduction funds and eight megawatts of low-cost power.

"If downstate can get $250 million for their transit authority, then Upstate should get $10 million. My constituents need access to public transportation to get to work, if they can't get to work then they will lose their job and go on some sort of public assistance. That is unacceptable on my watch," Grisanti wrote.
