Miss Posa's first grade class at St. Peter R.C. School in Lewiston is learning about culture, ancestry and heritage. Mrs. Pamela Violante, mother of first grader Mario Violante, is shown sharing her Polish heritage with the class, including celebrations and customs.

The class learned about the Easter tradition of decorating eggs. Violante also discussed the Christmas Eve tradition of sharing the oplatki. This tradition involves family members and guests each breaking off a piece of the oplatki from one another and eating it. As the oplatki is eaten, best wishes and blessings are shared with each other. Some people ask for forgiveness also.

Shown are Violante along with students Mario Violante, Catherine Ingoldsby, Patrick McGillion, Cole Norman and Matthew Stephenson.
