The first night of the popular "Haunted Fortress" fundraiser at Old Fort Niagara was a great success. A perfect autumn evening greeted 1,200 people as they came to the fort Saturday for a good time and to help raise money for programming.
The sounds of screams and laughter could be heard all night as folks encountered ghouls and strange people as they made their way through the darkness in the old fort. The campfire was a way to warm up and hear ghost stories, both before and after walking among the happenings inside the fort's walls and the historical tour of the cemetery.
