The Youngstown Free Library, 240 Lockport St., announces the following for September:

Jan Gilgore informs the library, with support from www.Geekthelibrary.org, is participating in a "geek" promotional campaign.

She describes the verb "to geek" as follows: "To love, to enjoy, to celebrate, to have an intense passion for. To express interest in; to possess a large amount of knowledge in; and to promote.

"Everyone has something they are passionate about something they geek. Maybe you geek football, hip-hop, classic movies, or organic gardening. Whatever you geek, serious or fun, the public library supports you," Gilgore said.

•The library will have a float in the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.'s 100th anniversary parade on Monday, Sept. 5.

"Look for our 'Geek the library' float and wave hi," Gilgore said.

•The Town of Porter Story hour will hold a registration and "meet the storytellers" on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

"Pre-school children are invited to attend this fun program," Gilgore said.

Story hour sessions will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 9:30 and 11 a.m. The theme will be "Welcome to Story Hour." On Tuesday, Sept. 27 (same times), the theme will be "Colors."

•Toddler and Parent Story Time will begin on Friday, Sept. 23, at 9:30 a.m. Registration is now under way at the library. The program includes stories, rhymes, music and flannel boards for children ages 15-35 months. Children should attend with a participating adult.

•The BTOP Express will return to library to teach a series of four computer classes at 10 a.m. on alternate Thursdays, beginning Sept. 15. Topics include: Sept. 15 - Basic Word; Sept. 29 - Word intermediate; Oct. 18 - Organizing files; Oct. 27 - "GaGa for Google."

Space is limited and registration is required. Call the library at 745-3555 or stop in to register.

•The library is forming a book discussion group. An organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Those who have already registered at the library will be contacted. Those interested in participating can call 745-3555 and register.

"Bring a list of books you think will be interesting for the group to discuss over the next few months," Gilgore said.
