WNY Susan G. Komen for the Cure announces new funding opportunities to impact breast cancer

The Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to announce the availability of grant funds for 2012-13. Applications for breast cancer and breast health programs from non-profit and faith-based organizations, governmental agencies, and education institutions in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties are eligible for funding. Komen WNY is currently looking to fund collaborative, community-based programs focused on education, access to screening, and/or promoting breast health from within the medical community.

For the past 10 years, Komen WNY has worked to better the lives of people in the community who are facing breast cancer. Through proceeds from events such as the Susan G. Komen WNY Race for the Cure, the organization has been are able to invest close to $3 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in Western New York.

The money goes to local organizations that are addressing critical unmet breast health and breast cancer needs in WNY. Currently, Komen WNY is funding eight community grants with a total dollar value of $432,000. In addition to the community grants, Komen WNY also funds small program and conference grants (up to $10,000) throughout the year for community-based organizations that address Komen mission priorities.
