Frontier Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a memorial service in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of firefighter Ronald T. Kreamer at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 2132 Sawyer Drive, Wheatfield.

On Aug. 13, 2001, the structure at 2132 Sawyer Drive, known as Sawyer Gardens, a senior citizen apartment complex, was struck by lightning as a series of powerful thunderstorms moved through Western New York. The lightning caused a major fire at the building. During the course of firefighting operations, Kreamer collapsed and had to be removed from the structure by fellow firefighters. Sadly, efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The fire company will hold a formal service conducted by the Rev. Wayne Jagow, followed by a balloon release in Kreamer's honor.
