The Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center's 17th annual Penn Dixie Nature Cruise and Buffalo Lighthouse Tour will be on Saturday, Sept. 10, with boarding beginning at 8:30 a.m. and departing promptly at 9 a.m. There is limited space available, so bookings should be made soon.

The three-hour cruise will view the Buffalo Harbor, Lake Erie, Niagara River and the Black Rock Canal. Tour guides will discuss the local geology - including the formation of the Great Lakes and Niagara River - fisheries, aquatic biology, birding and historic points of interest, providing an interesting and informative commentary throughout the cruise.

The trip is a way to view the Buffalo area and skyline from the harbor, Lake Erie and the Niagara River, including the wind turbines that have been installed on the former Bethlehem Steel property. It provides an opportunity to learn about the natural history of the area and have experts present to answer questions.

After completion of the cruise, there will be a tour of the Buffalo Lighthouse, courtesy of the Buffalo Lighthouse Association. This will be a rare opportunity to visit a historically significant and architecturally prominent feature on the Buffalo waterfront.

Bring a jacket or windbreaker, rubber-soled shoes, a camera and binoculars. The cost is $22 adults, $19 children (HNHS members); $25 adults, $22 children (non-members). For a registration form or additional information, call the HNHS at 627-4560 or visit www.penndixie.org.
