The Town of Niagara will hold its fifth annual fishing derby for the youth in the community on Saturday, July 16, at Elmer's Pond in Veterans Memorial Park, 7000 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara.

"We've got lots of prizes," said Bob Herman, event chairman.

New this year is Big Elmer, a large mouth bass weighing more than 4 pounds that was added to the pond this week.

"The child who catches Big Elmer will win a grand prize. He's tagged, so we know who he is," Herman said. Check-in for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. Fishing will be from 8 to 11 a.m., followed by lunch and an awards ceremony.

Children up to age 15 are eligible to attend this free event. No pre-registration is required, but participants do need to register the day of the event and parental supervision is highly recommended. Volunteers are needed. For more information, call 297-5243.
