After a year of planning and a month of high anxiety, the Town of Wheatfield Seniors celebrated its 40th anniversary on May 14.
This dinner, held at the Wheatfield Community Center, was something special for all the seniors who attended, because they shared the memories and laughs each had over the years. The storytelling was the unique part of the evening as everyone tried to outdo one another's story lines.
It was a festive affair, made possible by the efforts of Ed Sturgeon, Arlene Mante and Gail Connery, plus many others who tirelessly worked for the enjoyment of everyone.
The food was catered by Suzanne's, which did a wonderful job of ensuring that everything was done to perfection and professionally served. The generous servings consisted of fresh lettuce and tomato salad, succulent roast beef, baked chicken, macaroni with red sauce, red potatoes, freshly warmed rolls and condiments to satisfy everyone taste.
The finishing touch to the meal was a beautiful donated cake baked by the Crestwood Nursing Home.
Many door prizes were donated for the celebration by Mike Gurnett of Alarm Design, the Wheatfield Town Board members, Recreation Director Ed Sturgeon and Town Attorney Bob O'Toole.
After the meal, there was music by The Second Time Around.
As the evening ended, all commented as they danced through the raindrops how much the wonderful and special evening meant to them.
