Niagara Hospice will celebrate Armed Forces Day with the American Legion Riders Wheatfield Post 1451 on May 21.

The community is invited to come at noon on Saturday, May 21, to the Niagara Hospice campus at 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, to watch the riders roll into town.

In the spirit of Niagara Hospice's year-round We Honor Veterans initiative, staff and volunteers will honor veterans and service personnel with a brief ceremony at the Service Memorial Wall in the Niagara Hospice Memorial Gardens. Refreshments will be provided following the ceremony with an opportunity for community veterans and hospice patients to meet with the American Legion Riders. Tours of Niagara Hospice House will also be available.

"The Legion Riders are honored to be able to assist Niagara Hospice in gratitude for the special care they provide for our veterans. This is an organization that truly understands the needs and the respect that veterans deserve throughout their lives," said Sam Reeder, director of the Greater Niagara American Legion Riders.

Donations of clothing and personal care items will also be accepted May 21 for Jammies for GIs. Rehabilitating troops are in need of items of clothing, personal hygiene and entertainment. Event participants are invited to bring any of the following for donation: items of new clothing (M/L/XL) and personal hygiene items, books, magazines, or DVD movies.
