Following its slogan, "Get up ... Get out ... Go Play!", Zeeter's offers performance apparel and equipment for outdoors and fitness lovers. The products available at Zeeter's may not be well known, but are "superior product lines," according to owner Jeff Deming.

Since opening last summer, Zeeter's has had time to grow and develop. Jeff and his wife, Pam Deming, originally were located by the waterfront.  They got their feet wet (no pun intended) and became more experienced as new storeowners.

When Angel to Apple moved last fall from its former location at 744 Center St., Zeeter's took over the spot. The new, larger space not only has allowed the owners to offer more products, but also has given them a lot more recognition and business.

"Not many people knew who we were," Deming said of his former Water Street location. "Now business is running great; there is a lot more traffic."

When asked why he and Pam opened Zeeter's, he explained their background of living all throughout the U.S. While in Wyoming, Vermont, Colorado, Nevada and Arizona, they saw great products sold for the outdoors and wanted to bring things back with them to offer to people who love the outdoors as much as they do. The Demings try to carry products made in the U.S., as well as organic, green merchandise.

Unique to their shop is that Zeeter's is the only store in the Village of Lewiston that offers men's clothing. Excited about this element of his store, Deming shows off his comfortable, everyday pant for men. Mountain Kakis are great for fishing, hiking and just being out in nature, he said.

Plus, Zeeter's carries an exclusive line of Lewiston-branded items, including T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts and more.

Not only does Zeeter's sell clothing for men and women, but for children, too. Having three children of their own, the Demings know that quality "outdoor stuff" is hard to come by for children. From their own experience, they know that parents who were active before having children want some way to incorporate the outdoors in their lives, preferably with their children. Having a source for outdoor gear available for every family member is a great option for young, active families.

Anyone striving for a healthy lifestyle can find something useful at Zeeter's.

"People may be intimidated that we are too hard-core outdoors, but we offer normal leisure clothes as well," Deming said. "My wife is great at choosing cool, normal clothing that has a function and style."

New to Zeeter's is its partnership with Myers Kite Surfing. Zeeter's will carry its equipment, and lessons are also available through the shop. Visit www.myerskitesurfing.com for more information

Hoping to become the "hub for outdoor activity," Zeeter's additionally sponsors the Bike Boy Racing Club, which begins its rides at the shop. A women's running club also begins its run Saturday mornings from Zeeter's. The store opens up early to give participants an opportunity to shop around for anything they may need before their journey, and then they are off.

The Demings intend to partner up with yoga and fitness centers, and sponsor more teams in the future. Ideally, Zeeter's anticipates expanding to carry cycles and footwear as well.
