Four firefighters whose brave actions a decade ago saved the lives of two Coast Guardsmen from the icy waters of Lake Ontario will be honored tonight as their heroic deeds are recounted in the Town of Wilson, Niagara County Legislator David E. Godfrey, R-Wilson, announced.
The ceremony follows a recent memorial for two Coast Guardsmen who died in the same 2001 incident. On March 23, 2001, the four Coast Guardsmen were on a routine patrol when their vessel capsized. It was through the intervention of Wilson Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 firefighters that two of the four men were rescued and brought safely ashore.
