NU is one of only 12 schools recognized in New York

Niagara University is one of only a dozen colleges and universities in New York state - and 170 nationwide - to be selected to the 2010-11 list of top colleges by CollegesofDistinction.com. The online guide recognizes institutions of higher learning for their demonstrated excellence in four integral areas: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant campus communities and successful graduate outcomes.

The guide, which is also available in paperback, is based on the opinions of guidance counselors, educators and admissions professionals, and honors colleges excelling in key areas of educational quality.

"Schools selected as 'Colleges of Distinction' create well-rounded graduates and are among the very best in the country," reports Tyson Schritter, the executive editor of Colleges of Distinction. "While each school is one of a kind, they all share a common attribute: They are all a great place to get an education."

The goal of Colleges of Distinction is to provide students, counselors and parents with information about colleges and universities that excel in the aforementioned areas. Featured schools take a holistic approach to admissions, consistently excel in providing undergraduate education and have a truly national reputation.

"Being recognized by Colleges of Distinction is a wonderful achievement that distinguishes Niagara University's dynamic approach to experiential education and career preparation through internships, study abroad, faculty-led research and academic service learning," said the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., president of Niagara University. "It is truly a testament to our administration, faculty and staff that Niagara continues to be commended by objective reviewers for fostering an outstanding learning environment for our students."

Within the past calendar year, Niagara has been lauded in publications from U.S. News & World Report, the Princeton Review, G.I. Jobs magazine and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
