The Tuscarora Indian School K-Kids recently concluded its ninth annual Canned Food Drive.

Club advisor Paul Beatty reports the event encourages students in pre-K through sixth grade to collect non-perishable food items that are donated to families in need during the holiday season. This year, the kids were able to collect more than 400 items that will be distributed through the Tuscarora Indian Mission.

Miss Rathmann's third-grade class won an ice-skating/pizza party for collecting the most items.

Beatty stated that this was the sixth year in a row that Hugh Gee and Tony Attardo of Hyde Park Ice Rink will be donating ice time, skate rentals and pizza for the winning class. "They are very generous when it comes to helping out our kids!"

He went on to say that K-Kids is a "student-led" community service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston.  "Our objective is to provide opportunities for working together in service to both school and community; to develop leadership potential; to foster the development of strong moral character; and to encourage loyalty to school, community and nation," he said.
