Area residents with an interest in remediation efforts of Lake Ontario Ordnance Works properties, public and private, are invited to attend a meeting, Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Lewiston Senior Center, 4361 Lower River Road, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Presented as part of a state Department of Environmental Conservation grant to Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, representatives of Environmental Remediation Financial Services will provide a status report on remedial assessments of LOOW properties and developing activities within its 7,500-acre footprint.

Jeffrey R. Chiarenzelli, Ph.D., Ronald Adams and Ronald Scrudato are expected to offer a discussion of the work performed by the various agencies and private contractors at LOOW. "It will also provide you the opportunity to express your concerns, as well as provide recommendations on what is required to ensure effective remediation of the LOOW properties," says Scrudato.

He reports discussions will focus on the LOOW public and private properties overviews; interrelationships of sites, public and private; and the incomplete understanding of sites and their interrelationships. Discussion is also expected to focus on such LOOW site concerns as the Niagara Falls Storage Site, the Interim Waste Containment Site at NFSS and Air Force Property 68.

There will also be opportunity for public commentary, verbal, and/or written, at the session, en route to planned future meetings.
