Sheriff's deputies reveal results of recent DWI blitz

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office participated in the nationwide
driving while intoxicated blitz from Aug. 20 through Sept. 6, culminating in 16
DWI arrests during this 18-day blitz and two arrests for driving while ability
impaired by drugs, according to Sheriff James R. Voutour. Sheriff's deputies
issued a total of 57 traffic tickets during this detail, which included the DWI
charges; three for aggravated unlicensed operation; and two for operating a
motor vehicle with suspended registration. There were also three drivers
arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and one with criminal possession
of a controlled substance seventh. Three warrants were also executed on either
the driver or passenger during this detail.
Voutour lauded the efforts of the Niagara County Stop DWI
Coordinator Capt. Gregory Schuey, along with all the deputies involved in this
program whose efforts continue to make the roads of Niagara County safer.
