For a third straight year, the Hunters Hope Foundation will hold an Every Step Walk, to promote universal health screening for newborns. And, for a third straight year, Niagara County's Federal Credit Union will be a sponsor, along with other Western New York credit unions.

The walking team from NCFCU will join others in the event, which takes place Beaver Island State Park on Saturday, Sept.18.

Every Step is a national walk to educate the country about the inequality of newborn screening from state to state. By raising funds through this casual, non-competitive walk, Hunters Hope Foundation hopes to help save the lives of babies.

The event begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. The welcome ceremony takes place at 10:15 a.m., followed by the actual walk at 10:30 a.m. Lunch, activities and entertainment begin at 11 a.m.

Participants are asked to pay an opening pledge fee of $20 for the entire day.

NCFCU Operations Manager Nora Smith says the credit union "is excited to take part in this special event, as we join together to show our support for universal newborn screening. Walking together as a team is fun and powerful. It also gives us the chance to work together, as we take Every Step toward a common goal of giving every child a fair start at life."
