Hochul celebrates Women's History Month & International Women's Day

Issues proclamation designating March as Women’s History Month to honor trailblazers who have shaped state's history

Gov. Kathy Hochul today issued a proclamation designating March as Women's History Month to celebrate the achievements of New York women. Additionally, the governor directed New York state landmarks to be lit purple tonight, March 8, on International Women’s Day.

“New York is the birthplace of the women’s rights movement, and if not for the brave women who have come before me, I would not be here to serve as the first female governor of the state of New York,” Hochul said. “I am committed to honoring the legacy of all those who fought tirelessly for equality and will always fight to ensure a brighter, more just future for young women and girls in our state.”

The landmarks to be lit include:

• One World Trade Center
• Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
• Kosciuszko Bridge
• The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
• State Education Building
• Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
• Empire State Plaza
• State Fairgrounds – Main Gate & Expo Center
• Niagara Falls
• Albany International Airport Gateway
• Lake Placid Olympic Center
• MTA LIRR – East End Gateway at Penn Station
• Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
• Moynihan Train Hall
• Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
