Vehicle pursuit in Town of Niagara

On March 4 at 2:44 a.m., Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Deputy M. Drake attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Hyde Park Boulevard and Witmer Road in the Town of Niagara. A pursuit ensued when the operator refused to stop. The vehicle fled eastbound on Witmer Road and Saunders Settlement Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued northbound on Garlow Road where it left the roadway and attempted to flee through a field. It quickly became stuck in the thick mud, and the two occupants were apprehended without further incident.

The operator, a 39-year-old male from the Town of Niagara, was remanded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment. He is charged with fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, third degree (misdemeanor); obstruction of governmental administration, second (misdemeanor); reckless driving (misdemeanor); aggravated unlicensed operation (misdemeanor); and numerous vehicle and traffic law infractions. The vehicle was impounded and further charges are pending for the driver and his passenger.
