Press Release

On Presidents Day weekend, Old Fort Niagara takes visitors back to the days of the American Revolution when the historic site presents a special event titled “The Winter Warriors.”

Reenactors from the U.S. and Canada will present living history activities that illustrate how soldiers on both sides of the conflict survived winter weather during the War for Independence. Programs include musket firings, tactical demonstrations, period cooking (Saturday only), winter drinks of the period (including hot chocolate, tea and spruce beer), period heating and winter clothing.

Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a winter garrison as they take part in a wood gathering party. They can also warm up beside the fire in the 300-year-old French Castle and experience the fort in the winter season.

Hours for this special winter event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18. More information is available on the fort’s website at www.oldfortniagara.org

Old Fort Niagara is open year-round. Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
