Emergency crews responded to a structure fire at 1729 Ferry Ave., at approximately 9:55 a.m. The resident was able to escape, but unable to retrieve his dog. A search was conducted by Truck 1 for the missing dog, while Engine 4 battled the fire. The fire was put out quickly, but there was a lot of smoke and water damage to the home.

The 13-year-old dog, named “Baby,” was located inside a crate and removed from the home. She was given oxygen by the firefighters and an AMR ambulance crew member. She was responsive and breathing and was then transported by the NFPD animal control officer for treatment at the emergency animal hospital.

“Baby” is doing well and is expected to survive.

The cause of the fire and the amount of the damage is unknown at this time.
