Lewiston Police Department Press Release
On Dec. 8, 2023, at 9:19 p.m., Lewiston Police, along with Sanborn Fire Department and Lewiston Fire Co. No. 2, were dispatched to 2253 Saunders Settlement Road for a reported house fire. The first arriving Lewiston Police officer reported that there was heavy fire, and one person still trapped inside. The officer attempted to reach the victim, but was unable to, due to the fire conditions.
Sanborn Fire, along with several other fire departments, extinguished the fire, and the victim was found deceased inside the residence.
A Lewiston Police officer was transported to ECMC for burns and smoke inhalation. He has since been treated and released.
The fire is under investigation by Niagara County Origin and Cause. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
