Wheatfield sets Nov. 6 public hearing on town budget

Preliminary ’24 plan reflects modest increases

The Town of Wheatfield will hold a public hearing on its 2024 preliminary budget at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Town Hall.

By the numbers, the 2024 plan totals $15,987,253 – an increase of $859,838 over the town’s 2023 adopted budget, and a modest increase in the tax levy. Leading off with the general fund category, it reflects $5,415,070 in appropriations, $4,665,070 in revenue, $750,000 in fund balance spending and a $0 impact on the tax levy.

Looking at other numbers by fund/district, the budget finds the following: highway fund, $3,501,775 in appropriations, $3,001,775 in revenue, $500,000 from the fund balance, and $0 on the tax levy; water fund appropriation, $1,890,342, $1,890,342 in revenue, $0 fund balance, and $0 tax levy impact; sewer fund appropriation, $1,864,566, $749,200 in revenue, $0 fund balance, and $1,040,366 on the tax levy; fire protection district appropriation, $1,855,000, $0 in revenue, $75,000 fund balance, and $1,705,000 on the tax levy; lighting districts appropriation, $35,000, $0 from revenue and fund balance accounts, and $35,000 on the tax levy; and garbage district appropriation, $1,425,000, $0 revenues, $25,000 from fund balance, and $1,400,000 on the tax levy.

The impacts on the 2024 budget tax levy from all of the aforementioned categories totals $4,180,866, an increase of $157,756 over the town’s 2023 adopted plan.
