Ryan seeks exceptional high school seniors worthy of national recognition

Senator will recommend two outstanding students in 61st Senate District as potential nominees for Presidential Scholars Program

New York State Sen. Sean Ryan announced he is seeking high school seniors whose educational and extracurricular achievements are worthy of recognition. Ryan will recommend two students from New York’s 61st State Senate District for consideration as Presidential Scholars Program nominees, and will recommend one student of a career and technical education (CTE) program for recognition for an excellence in CTE award.

To be considered for either recommendation, students should apply here or at ryan.nysenate.gov by Sunday, Oct. 22.

A press release stated, “Established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964, the Presidential Scholars Program recognizes high school seniors who exhibit outstanding scholarship. Students will be considered for recommendation for this award on the basis of their involvement and service in school and community, leadership, and character, writing samples, academic achievements, heavy workload, family responsibilities, and extraordinary achievement or large obstacles overcome. Considerations for the CTE award recommendation will include academic rigor, technical competence, employability skills, as well as ingenuity, creativity, and real-world problem-solving ability.”

To be eligible for consideration, students must reside or attend a school in New York’s 61st State Senate District, which includes parts of the City of Buffalo; as well as the entireties of the City of Tonawanda; the towns of Amherst, Grand Island and Tonawanda; and the villages of Kenmore and Williamsville.
