As the summer ends and the weather turns, it is an exciting time of year for Niagara University’s baseball team. Anticipation is building for what promises to be an exciting college baseball season ahead. The Niagara Purple Eagles are gearing up for another shot at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament, and fans and students are eagerly awaiting their return to the diamond.

Last year, the Purple Eagles finished fifth in the MAAC standings with a 14-10 conference record, and took down historic programs like University of Oregon and University of Portland. The pitching staff is looking up this year and has a lot of returners coming back to the mound. In the fall games and intersquads, the pitching and defense has looked phenomenal.

One of the most exciting conference games of the year, the “Battle of the Bridge,” will always be a big series for the Purple Eagles against Canisius College. It will be a great matchup for both teams and both universities. Another notable matchup this year features another power 5 weekend series as the Purple Eagles travel to Michigan State. The nonconference matchups against big programs are key in order to see if this year’s squad has a chance at making a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Baseball fans in Lewiston and beyond have every reason to be excited. The 2024 Niagara University baseball season is just around the corner, and it promises to be an unforgettable year filled with hard-fought victories, and a strong sense of community pride.
