Niagara Falls: Neighborhood yard sale at Hyde Park east

Aug. 12-13

Max and Brook were planning to get rid of years’ worth of clutter from their Niagara Falls home, including furniture, clothing and even a set of snow tires. They got to planning and decided to include their neighbors. They made a flyer and hand-delivered them to people they knew around the block. The response was positive, and they decided to post a yard sign on a few lawns to see if there was extended interest.

A community sale is set for Aug. 12-13, with varying times between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Each home has a range of items, from children’s clothes and toys, to furniture, antiques and household items.

The list of participating homes and details of items for sale is available on the event Facebook page: https://fb.me/e/1mvlPpFli?mibextid=Z0UBBX.

“The response has been great!” Max said. “We love our neighborhood and have such nice neighbors. We always wave and say ‘Hello’ as we pass each other, usually, while walking our dogs. We have 15 houses signed up so far. When they called us, people were so excited and grateful to have something that unifies us as a neighborhood. They couldn’t believe we and some other neighbors are organizing this for free.”

Organizers said, “The neighborhood is minutes away from Lewiston, and a stone’s throw away from a thruway exit. There is plenty of parking around the North and Jerauld avenues pocket park. This section of Hyde Park east is bordered by Porter Road, the Hyde Park Golf Course, CSX Rail Yard, and Hyde Park Boulevard.”

Brook noted, “We love that where we live truly feels like a neighborhood. From the walkability, to the Hyde Park East Block Club, pocket park and the playground that have been revamped in recent years, we enjoy it here. We go to many yard sales and, each time we stop at one, we always search for whatever other sales are in that neighborhood. With the variety of homes included in this event, I think we have made it a one-stop-shop with something for everyone. Spend the day and see why we love it here.”
