President of State of Israel Isaac Herzog to give remarks during joint meeting of Congress

Congressman Brian Higgins invited attorney Peter Allen Weinmann as his guest to a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, featuring remarks by the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog.

“Peter Weinmann is a dedicated member of our community, serving Western New York both civically and professionally,” Higgins said. “As an established leader among the local Jewish community, he understands the importance of supporting freedom, democracy and security in Israel. We are proud to welcome him to our nation’s capital to witness President Herzog’s historic address.”

Weinmann currently serves as the vice president of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies. He previously served as president of the American Jewish Committee, Buffalo Niagara Chapter; as a member of the board of trustees at Temple Beth Zion; treasurer at the Kadimah School; and as trustee of the Buffalo Jewish Federation.

In addition to his work within the Jewish community, Weinmann was also a member of the development committee at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Leadership Buffalo Class of 1999, and the board of trustees at the Elmwood-Franklin School.

A graduate of Nichols School in Buffalo and Case Western Reserve University, Weinmann received his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Weinmann has been a practicing attorney for more than 34 years. He currently works as a tax assessment attorney at Wolfgang and Weinmann. Before entering private practice, he held a clerkship with the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, Fourth Department, in Rochester. He went on to serve as a prosecutor for the Erie County District Attorney for 10 years before becoming chief of narcotics in the District Attorney’s Office and special assistant to the United States attorney for the Western District of New York.

He is married to Amelida Ortiz Weinmann, also an active leader in the Jewish and Hispanic communities. They live with their family in Buffalo.

Higgins’ team said, “As Israel celebrates its 75th anniversary, President Biden will welcome President Isaac Herzog to Washington, D.C., for an official state visit on Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19. During the visit, the leaders will reaffirm the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security. They will discuss opportunities to deepen Israel’s regional integration in an effort to create a more peaceful and prosperous future in the Middle East. President Herzog will also meet with Vice President Kamala Harris during his visit.”
