The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced a lifeguard qualifier will be held for the completion of the 2023 season.

Testing is required for anyone wishing to work as a lifeguard at any New York state park. It will take place from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Lewiston-Porter High School, 4061 Creek Road, Youngstown.

Prior to employment, successful candidates must be at least 15 years of age and must furnish proof of completion of CPR for the professional and completion of the American Red Cross lifeguard training, which includes first-aid, with a certificate for the waterfront module or equivalent courses. Successful candidates will also need a physician's certification of adequate physical fitness, including a minimum of 20/40 uncorrected vision after receiving a conditional job offer.

Lifeguard positions in the Niagara Region will be available primarily at Woodlawn Beach, but potentially at Beaver Island, Evangola and Fort Niagara state parks. These positions pay between $20 and $24 an hour.

For further information or to register for the test, contact Benjamin Paquette at 716-475-6419 or [email protected].
