Carnegie Art Center to host 3 more outdoor concerts this summer

The Carnegie Art Center (CAC) will host three more concerts on its outdoor space this summer as part of the “Live on the Lawn” music series, presented by the Niagara Area Foundation.

A press release stated, “The purpose of the Carnegie Art Center is to sponsor, promote and encourage the development of visual and performing arts. The organization provides educational and cultural enrichment to the Western New York region.”

“Live on the Lawn” is an outdoor music series that features an array of musical talent from the Western New York region, ranging from funk to indie to jazz.

“We started ‘Live on the Lawn’ in 2020 during the height of COVID as a safe option for people to enjoy live music, and as a way to support local musicians,” program coordinator Natalie Brown said. “The first two shows in the music series were successful, and we’re excited to host three more concerts as part of the series.”

All of the shows take place 6-8 p.m. and cost $10 for members of the Carnegie Art Center or $15 for the general public.

On May 18, the CAC hosted The Darts, a soul/groove Instrumental band who played the sounds of STAX Records. On June 15, the CAC hosted ABtrio, led by guitarist Adam Bronstein, with influences ranging from jazz and hip-hop to R&B and psychedelia.

The next show in the lineup will feature the band tuesday nite on Thursday, July 20. Band members include Tom Varco on bass, James Kooken on drums, Sara Elizabeth on vox/guitar and Courtney Ann on vox/guitar. tuesday nite is a harmony-driven ambient indie rock duo from Buffalo. North Tonawanda-based Matt’s Music Vocal Performance Team takes the stage Thursday, Aug. 17. Founded in 2015, the vocal team is comprised of the top vocal performers from Matt’s Music who participate in local theater productions, competitions across the country, workshops with local and national professionals, and performances across Western New York. The final show in the “Live on the Lawn” music series will feature the Elliot Scozzaro Quartet on Thursday, Sept. 7. Band members include Elliot Scozzaro on alto saxophone, Matt Michaud on guitar, Paul LaDuca on bass and John Bacon on drums. The Elliot Scozzaro Quartet plays a variety of original compositions, “Great American Songbook” standards, and arrangements of bebop, hard-bop, and post-bop tunes by artists such as Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, James Moody and Donald Byrd. The quartet also performs the music of celebrated Western New York jazz musicians Don Menza and Sam Noto. Learn more at https://www.elliotscozzaro.com/.

Attendees of “Live on the Lawn” can preorder food and beverages from Webster’s Bistro online at https://webstersbistro.hrpos.heartland.us/menu#, or they are welcome to bring their own food and beverages. Attendees can bring a chair or blanket for the lawn space.
