Niagara Gospel Mission is hosting its second annual symposium on the topic of mental health and homelessness. The event will take place from 1-5 p.m. May 25 at 1317 Portage Road, Niagara Falls.

A press release stated, “If you have watched the news lately, you cannot help but realize that our nation, state and city are dealing with the struggle of mental health. At the Niagara Gospel Mission (NGM), we deal with it every day with the homeless population that comes to us. Like everyone else, we are trying to figure out the best way to help those who are in need and work towards a solution to this problem. That is why, this Thursday, the Niagara Gospel Mission is hosting a symposium on mental health and homelessness from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 25.”

Director of Development John Cooper Jr. said, “There Is no doubt that our city, state and nation are in a mental health crisis, and we see it every day with the guests that come to us. We cannot solve the problem alone; it is going to take all of us, and this will be the first step to making that happen.”

NGM has invited Dr. Daniel Berger to speak on these issues from a Christian perspective. Berger is the pastor of Faith Fellowship Church in Clarence, a university professor, a biblical phenomenologist, and the author of 12 books on history, philosophy, and the reality of the mental health field.

“This is an all-hands-on-deck effort for the soul and health of our city; we cannot do it alone.” Cooper said. “We want to bring everyone together for a time of learning and interaction around how we can best help the people who are suffering in our city.”

The symposium is free and will have catered snacks by Natural Link in Lewiston.

Organizers added, “If you cannot make it to the whole event, feel free to stop come and leave as you are able. If you would like to RSVP, please do so by emailing [email protected] or calling 716-205-8805.”
