At Monday’s Village of Lewiston Board meeting, Mayor Anne Welch said activities at the inclusive playground in Marilyn Toohey Park are picking up with the warmer weather.

Unfortunately, she noted, potential safety hazards also are on the rise.

“We have a lot of traffic on Center Street speeding, and stop signs just being ignored,” she said.

Lewiston Police Department Capt. Mike Salada said, “We have some traffic blitzes coming up, and you’ll see some increasing presence.”

He noted, “We had some kids running around after hours the other night blowing airhorns off. While we didn’t find them, we will be making an announcement that the ordinance will be enforced – and parents need to come to court to deal with it.”

Following the meeting, LPD Chief Frank Previte said his department would be especially mindful of the curfew law. Through May 1, youth under the age of 16 cannot be out with a chaperone after 9 p.m. That time adjusts to 10 p.m. thereafter.
