From the Office of Mayor Robert Restaino:

On Nov. 13, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the Niagara Falls Police responded to the 56th Street bridge on Niagara Falls Boulevard to investigate a car crash involving a pedestrian.

A 56-year-old woman from North Tonawanda was operating a 2001 Ford pickup eastbound on Niagara Falls Boulevard when she alleges the icy road conditions caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle struck a 36-year-old male pedestrian on the south side of the street before spinning around 180 degrees and coming to rest against the northside guardrail facing west.

The impact of the collision threw the pedestrian over the guardrail and down the embankment, where he was located by members of the Niagara Falls Fire Department. The pedestrian was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is currently in stable condition with fractures to his left ribs.

After being administered field sobriety tests, the driver of the Ford was charged with driving while intoxicated and imprudent speed.
