Rodney Grant to receive Lifetime Achievement Award, host 20th Native American Music Awards

Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino announced the Native American Music Awards show, originally scheduled for this evening, has been postponed due to severe weather conditions. The show will now take place in The Bear’s Den Showroom at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.

The Native American Music Awards announced Rodney A. Grant will be the host emcee of the 20th Annual Native American Music Awards on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Seneca Niagara Hotel & Casino in Niagara Falls. Grant also will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as an actor in the motion picture industries.

This will be the fourth time Grant has hosted the Native American Music Awards, and his first time in the Northeast, after coming out of a 15-year retirement. Grant is a member of the Omaha tribe of Nebraska. He has had an outstanding career in film, motion pictures and television, with a memorable role as Wind In His Hair in the 1990 film “Dances with Wolves” with Kevin Costner. He also has delivered top performances in “Ghosts of Mars,” “Wild Wild West,” “Geronimo: An American Legend,” “War Party” and “Powwow Highway.” Grant portrayed the famous warrior Crazy Horse in the 1991 television movie “Son of the Morning Star,” and was Chingachgook in the syndicated television series “Hawkeye.”

Grant will induct artist and event performer Micki Free into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame. Other featured performers include multiple nominees Antoine Edwards Jr., Cody Blackbird, Earl Slick and the Fabulous Ripcords, Fawn Wood, Gunner Jules, Spur Pourier, Sten Joddi, and The Halluci Nation.
