The Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corp. (NORLIC), often referred to as the “Land Bank,” will host a two-part homebuyer education series, with the first session scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, in Niagara Falls. This free series is being done in partnership with Belmont Housing.

Niagara County Legislator Chris Voccio, a member of the NORLIC board of directors, said the series will be taught by HUD-certified housing counselors.

“This is an opportunity for those interested in homeownership to really get an understanding of the entire process from professionals who can also discuss the various programs and opportunities that are available,” Voccio said.

The six-hour workshop covers the full process of purchasing a home, from finding a home, to financing and to closing. This class also fulfills the certification requirements for most first-time homebuyer programs.

NORLIC Project Manager Matthew Chavez said series like this are important to NORLIC’s efforts to rebuild neighborhoods.

“Our efforts at revitalizing neighborhoods by acquiring delinquent and vacant residential properties will not be successful if we cannot attract people to make these properties their homes,” he said. “That why we need to promote series like this, so people recognize homeownership is indeed attainable.”

The event will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at  TReC, 616 Niagara St., Niagara Falls.

Chavez said space is limited, and preregistration is required. Registration can be completed by calling 716-884-7791, ext. 131.
