May is Older Americans Month – a time to review Medicare requirements

By AAA of Western and Central New York

May is National Older Americans Month, a time to encourage and recognize the countless contributions that older adults make to our communities. AAA Western and Central New York has several services available to seniors, including driving evaluations, insurance reduction classes, and a Solo Travelers Club. One of the newest options involves Medicare services.

Medicare can be confusing and complex. In short, Medicare is the federal insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease. Medicare has four main parts that cover specific services.

To help the public navigate the journey through Medicare, AAA Western and Central New York is offering online Medicare workshops at no cost through its insurance division.

Navigating the Medicare process alone can be difficult, and it can be time-consuming. By taking part in a complimentary webinar, participants can learn from AAA advisers who are AHIP (America's Health Insurance Plans) licensed, get recertified, and licensed annually to understand Medicare plans. Unless the average consumer is doing that, they're not going to know as much about insurance as a professional.

With so many questions surrounding Medicare, AAA licensed Medicare advisers host virtual webinars to answer questions for AAA members and nonmembers alike. This is an easy way to gather information to understand Medicare. Individuals who have specific questions can meet one-on-one with AAA licensed Medicare advisers to get their specific questions answered, which is also a complimentary service.

Upcoming sessions to choose from:

√ Tuesday, May 10, 5 p.m., “Ready for Retirement?”

√ Thursday, May 19, 1 p.m., “Turning 65 Medicare 101”

√ Wednesday, May 25, 10 a.m., “Turning 65 Medicare 101”

√ Tuesday, June 7, 1 p.m. “Understanding your Medicare Options”

√ Wednesday, June 15, 5 p.m., “Ready for Retirement?”
