Applications now open for Just Buffalo Writing Center Youth Fellowship

Applications are now open for Just Buffalo Literary Center’s 2022 Just Buffalo Writing Center Youth Fellowship, a six-week summer fellowship opportunity for a Western New York-based young writer to develop their craft and explore professional avenues within the literary arts.

“The JBWC Youth Fellowship offers young writers a chance to be just that: writers,” said Noah Falck, Just Buffalo’s education director. “It is important for young people to be given the time and space to explore their own writing and to be taken seriously. It is a summer highlight for us to be able to work side by side with such talented young people.”

Open to youth in Western New York between the ages of 15-18, the selected young writer(s) will work with a mentor, be encouraged to develop their unique voice as a creative writer and thinker, and present a creative writing project to be completed over the course of the summer fellowship. To support their creative activities, the fellow will be offered a $1,200 stipend.

The Youth Fellowship application deadline is Monday, June 6, and the chosen fellow(s), to be selected by final judge and novelist Gabriel Bump, will be announced in late June. More information, as well as the application, can be found at justbuffalo.org/youth-fellowship.

Just Buffalo Literary Center’s mission is to create and strengthen communities through the literary arts. For over 45 years, the organization has brought the world’s greatest writers to Buffalo, hosted poetry events and readings, and supported the development of young writers.
