Village of Lewiston election: Vic Eydt seeks reelection

Village of Lewiston Trustee Victor E. Eydt announced his plans to seek reelection to the Village Board of Trustees on Election Day (June 21).

Eydt wants to acknowledge the many letters, cards, prayers and phone calls he has received as he heals after receiving a life-sustaining kidney transplant on March 29 at the Erie County Medical Center. He is getting better every day and is anxious to return to good health.

Eydt has served the village since 1993, first as a member of the Planning and Historic Preservation Commission, and eventually serving as chairman of this important board for 12 years.

Over those 30 years of service, Eydt was involved, in charge of, or decided many very important decisions for the community. It is this depth of knowledge and experience in actually getting things done that inspires him to ask for your support as a trustee once again.

Eydt recalled that, “As chairman, I directed the Planning Commission to follow the village code, and worked with each developer to achieve the best result for the citizens of Lewiston.”

This same experience guides him as a trustee: What is best for our village in the near term and in the future.

Eydt said village parking remains a critical issue for our residents, our local businesses and their employees. A village shuttle at critical times remains a possible option coordinated with the business community, the chamber and festival event planners.

Recently, the state of New York accepted the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) as the basis of future development and protection of our waterfront. This multiyear project was chaired by Eydt to its successful conclusion and acceptance by the state.

He has also been our “point man” for the reconstruction of our waterfront after the flooding of 2017 and 2019, a $1.2 million project. Eydt is the village’s representative concerning the waterfront, meeting frequently with New York State Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) and Niagara County Emergency Management. Eydt encourages everyone to see our beautiful waterfront – now built to last.

Eydt is also involved in many of our village’s community volunteer groups, including the Historic Association of Lewiston (HAL). He serves as prelate of the Lower Niagara Moose Lodge 584. He is currently serving on the board of Lewiston’s Memorial Day Remembrance Committee, and as an active supporter of the Niagara Region Chamber of Commerce. He managed a successful fundraiser to assist the all-inclusive playground and splashpad at Marilyn Toohey Park, and has long volunteered for numerous community events.

Eydt believes this is a critical time in our village. He wants to retain our small community atmosphere while allowing appropriate development, including new homes and business, and applauds the many improvements made to our current establishments.

As your deputy mayor, Eydt would like to continue to serve the people of the village. He is proud of his efforts to maintain a balanced village budget allowing no tax increase this year. He fully supports the mayor and Village Board as they seek federal and state grants to support a variety of the village’s infrastructure needs. Eydt feels his service and experience with these issues is a great resource for the future of the village.

Eydt said, “With your help, I am seeking reelection to a new four-year term. I encourage all registered voters to exercise their rights and vote; and I humbly ask for your vote.”

The Village of Lewiston election will take place from noon to 9 p.m. June 21 at the Red Brick Municipal Building.
