'Other Voices' program to highlight Black community in Lockport's history

The Niagara County Historical Society will present the next installment in its “Other Voices” program at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26. The free program, open to the public, will feature a talk on the history of Lockport’s First African Methodist Church, and the role of the Black community in the development of Lockport.

Annie and Jackie Gibson, members of the church, will focus on the church’s history; while the Rev. Willie Pulliam, the church’s pastor, will discuss current activities within the community, and how it is an essential part of Lockport’s past, present and future.

“Other Voices, Past & Present” is a series of talks funded by a Verizon Community benefits Grant through the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. It focuses on groups whose voices have been underrepresented in history and the present.

The April program will be presented by nurses from Eastern Niagara Hospital, while the May installment will highlight Vietnam veterans, hosted by Edward “Ted” Jackson.
