In recognition of the National Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 17, which also commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Explore & More – The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum and BankOnBuffalo have partnered to launch the collection of needed winter clothing items (new hats, mittens and socks) for the adults and families residing at Gerard Place, for the third consecutive year.

In addition, BankOnBuffalo, as the presenting sponsor for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day’s educational activities at Explore & More, is also defraying the admission fee for everyone coming to the museum Jan. 17 to $5 per person – a savings of 55% off the regular non-member admission fee.

“BankOnBuffalo is proud to honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his vision of building a better community by sponsoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities and reduced public admission fees at Explore & More, and promoting the collection of needed winter clothing for those served by Gerard Place,” said Michael Noah of BankOnBuffalo. “Our employees will also be contributing money individually to purchase winter clothing throughout January with various fundraisers at the bank.”

Collection bins will be set up at the museum and all BankOnBuffalo branches through Jan. 31 for people to donate new and unused winter clothing such as jackets, blankets, hats and gloves for adults and children in need at Gerard Place. People can also donate items via Amazon’s Wish List at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/17W354MR6NF2H?type=wishlist.

Gerard Place has been providing housing since 2000 for homeless single parents and their families, and empowering those parents through education, employment, vocational training, life skills classes and counseling.

“Gerard Place thanks BankOnBuffalo and Explore & More for this very generous effort to help the children and families in our very poor surrounding community, said David Zapfel, CEO/president of Gerard Place. “It is especially rewarding to see Buffalo-based organizations working together to provide essential clothing at this time of year for those most vulnerable in our community,”

In addition to the donation drive, Explore & More has planned a day of storytelling, crafts and educational activities all focused on celebrating Dr. King's life and teachings of diversity, equality, freedom and resistance.

Located in the heart of Buffalo, at 130 Main St. (Canalside), Explore & More offers children and families four floors to “unlock the limitless potential in all of us.” Visit exploreandmore.org or connect on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube.
