The American Heart Association (AHA) announced a new member to its Buffalo-Niagara team.

Laurie Buckley was named development director for the Buffalo-Niagara market. Buckley is a native of the Buffalo area and has spent much of her career in business development within the hospitality industry. She has experience in sales, development, networking, customer service and events.

In her role as development director at the AHA, Buckley will work with the local volunteers and sponsors to further the AHA’s mission as “a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.” She will lead the Buffalo-Niagara CycleNation and Go Red for Women campaigns.

Buckley is no stranger to the AHA. Six years ago, she survived a serious heart attack brought on by SCAD, spontaneous coronary artery dissection. The night of her heart attack, she looked up heart attack symptoms online and found the answers she needed on the American Heart Association’s website.

“I’m honestly thrilled for this opportunity. To be able to work for the AHA, and to help with something so meaningful and personal to me, is very special,” Buckley said. “I’m looking forward to making an impact on the health of my community.”

Buckley lives in Kenmore with her family and enjoys all four seasons in Western New York, including the lake in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. She also loves cooking at home and laughing with her kids all year round.
